14Oct New Item for the Noob store, the Advanced Zoom h1 shock mount.
The new printer has paid off with an update to the Zoom h1 shock mount. This upgraded version of the shock mount gives you 3 extra cold shoes around the outside of the unit and a thicker frame to handle the extra weight.
If you’re wondering why you might need the outside cold shoe adapters on your shock mount, this example allows you to mount a wireless mic and the RODE Videomic in one place and feed both inputs into the Zoom h1. This of course could be used with anything you could think of.
The Advanced Zoom h1 shock mount will set you back $14 plus shipping, which is a little more then theĀ original, but considering other options that run almost $50, I think it’s still a pretty good deal. The first run of these guys will be limited, but more will be on there way soon.

Just bought one of these for my new H1.
The H1 is excellent but there is a hell of a lot of handling noise.
Here’s hoping this bracket will improve that!
Thanks in advance.

Question – is there any way to separate the channels of the audio the way you have them set up there with the splitter into the h1?
I would have thought to plug the shotgun mic into the camera and the wireless into the h1.

Yes, if you use a dual mono to stereo adapter that is wired correctly you have the mic recorded on the left channel and the wireless mic recorded on the right. The Rode Videomic doesn’t have any real way to control the volume, but the wireless mic output does so you can set your input sensitivity for the Rode then just turn down you wireless mic inputs until the levels are where you want them. Or if you have a little camera mixer laying around you could do something like this.

Here is an updated picture using the noob V2. Much better design this time around. The mount feels sturdier and holds the DP4 great. I’m looking forward to more of your fab work.

Thanks Ryan! I’ve been constantly trying to improve the designs, the more printers I can keep running the more designs I can test. Hope to have more items in the noob store soon. Thanks again for the picture.

Deejay, I don’t own the setup like yours, but is that pretty well balanced? It looks wobbly on top.

Hey there
You are doing some really great testing. I do have one question though if you could answer when you get a chance. The sound on your videos are awesome. What’s your exact set up?
Thanks

Will the h4n fit as well?
November 20th, 2011 at 8:53 pm
No, the H4n is slightly to big for my shock mount design.

My gadgety-ma-bob shoe thing just arrived on its holiday to Scotland.
Now to get loading it up for a wee test run.

Shock Mount on 600D
November 8th, 2011 at 12:59 pm
Would this fit a Tascam DR-07mkii?
November 20th, 2011 at 8:40 pm
Yes, the inside gives you 65mm of space.
November 13th, 2011 at 10:12 pm
Deejay, would the shock mount fit the Tascam DR-07mkii?
November 20th, 2011 at 8:30 pm
Yes it works fine with the DR-07. The inside of the shock mount gives you 65mm of space, so as long as your recorder is smaller then that you’ll be just fine.
