26Apr 5d mark III 1.2.1 firmware has no audio out via HDMI
Just tested the new Canon 5d mark III firmware with the Atomos Ninja 2. I can confirm that there is no audio output put over HDMI in recorder mode. Very big disappointment. I’ll be driving for the next 4 hours. More info once I get to my destination.

Can you not connect the headphone-jack with the sound-input on the Ninja? Or does it only take Line-In or something ridiculous?

In this case… why connect the mics to the 5d and then pass to the ninja? Why not connect the mic directly into the ninja?
And Deejay.. tha Ninja’s screen is the same of the samurai?

You’ll end having to record audio directly to the ninja. Not a hug issue just means no 4 track audio.

Oh, hahah

If this turns out to be true for the official release, I will probably sell my 5Dm3 and just wait for a working BMCC. Tired of shenanigans.

Not sure, 1.2.0 running at NAB seemed to have audio out working. I guess we’ll find out in a few more days.

The ninja 2 is detecting the video res, etc but it’s not letting me enable the monitor. Any idea of what I’m doing wrong?

In the last box in the first menu, go down to the bottom and select hdmi+LCD and select mirroring.

Yea, I’ve tried looking for that HDMI+LCD everywhere and for some reason I can’t find it. I only get Time code, Silent Control, and Movie shoot. btn. It’s in manual mode also. Double checked firmware is at 1.1.3. Any suggestions?

Yea, I’m an idiot. I flashed the wrong file lol

Is it recording audio to the Ninja through the HDMI? Or not? Please check to confirm this?

Hi Deejay,
I canon 650D + Lilliput HDMI Monitor with Headphone jack on it. If I play the one I record, the headphone jack works, but if you are recording no audio comes out from that monitor. Is it the canon problem or the monitor problem. Can you suggest what kind of audio monitoring I can do for my canon 650D? I don’t have a budget for juicedlink, any cheaper option please. Thanks Man.

Tested oficial FW capturing PRORES HQ to BMD Ultrastudio Express, also recorded ALL-I internal to compare.
There is slight shift to green on PRORES, also when monitoring thru HDMI 🙁
Internal ALL-I is well balanced, so should be necessary to adjust WB in post for prores.
ALSO NO AUDIO TRHU HDMI on OFICIAL RELEASE!! :(((

I haven’t had the green shift issue some have been reporting, but i’ve only done a small amount of shooting. No audio thru hdmi is the biggest disappointment.

Just spoke to Bruce at Canon Professional Services. He confirms that firmware 1.2.1 should support audio over HDMI in mirroring mode. I’ve tested two separate 5d Mark III’s with a consumer grade HDMI monitor, an Atomos HDMI to HDSDI converter and an AJA HDMI to HDSDI converter. No live audio – just clean video out.

Just got a call back from CPS…they now confirm that there is no live audio out over HDMI.
Anyone selling a Nikon?

I think they intend for use to record in camera and at the ninja then use the timecode to sync. Once I get a chance to figure out the work flow, i’ll post more info.

Is anyone else having the issue that any video files played back off of the camera itself don’t mirror on the HDMI? My live mirrored feed works fine, but as soon as I try and watch what I just shot I can only watch on the camera. Currently I am mostly using the HDMI to monitor, not record and not being able to review the last take on a large monitor is disappointing. If I turn off mirroring it works like in 1.1.3 where the HDMI works, but the camera LCD doesn’t. I’m hoping there is some other setting I’ve missed, but I’m thinking that’s just the way it is.
Thanks

I was having the same problem at first but it seemed like when I turned on the sync and timecode send the problem went away.

Hi Deejay could you please explain exactly how to do this please? I can’t get playback to work either and have a shoot tomorrow!
Thanks
