28Apr Canon 5d mark III 1.2.1 firmware overview video
Here’s a quick overview of the leaked Canon firmware update. So far I haven’t had any problems. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to post some color correction tests later on this week. For now this should help you find your way around the convoluted menu. The real firmware is still due for release on the 30th.

I’m glad to see that the leaked firmware was indeed the final/official version….. DeeJay, are there any other external recorders other than Atomos devices? Or do I just need to go ahead and get a ninja 2?

There are, you might want to check out the blackmagic hyperdeck. It doesn’t have a monitor but you can find it used on ebay for around $250. The other options on the market are more costly than the ninja 2. Hope that helps.

I noticed on another persons 5d3 that they were able to have both screens going at the same time. Is that in fact true with the new firmware?

Yes if you turn mirroring on, you’ll be able to display on both the camera screen as well as the output.

It would be great if you could put up some comparisons between the video recorded off the card and off the drive and magnify and try grading, something like this: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/2125-exploring-nikon-d5200-hdmi-output-review-update/page-2
