30Aug Get Canon DPP and EOS utility without a disc
In the past if you bought a used Canon camera that was missing the Canon utility disc or you lost the EOS utility disc that came with your camera you were pretty much out of luck. You could visit Canon’s site and under downloads you’d find upgrades to the utility software but you couldn’t actually get a hold of the instillation program.
Recently (at the beginning of this month) Canon quietly added a new selection to the “Driver & Software” tab. The new program is labeled “EOS Digital Solution Disk Software”. It took almost 15 years, but Canon finally realized that people needed another option for instillation. After all, many new laptops and desktops no longer include disc drives, until now the only easy way to get things properly installed without a drive was to buy a USB disc drive.
All you need to do in order to get things working is head over to Canon’s site. Select the products tab and click on cameras. Find your camera in the list and click on that. Then click on “EOS Digital Solution Disk” and accept the terms of service.
Note: If you don’t see your camera on the list, don’t worry, Just select another camera, the utility (currently 28.2A) is the same for every camera.
After that, a pop up window appears requesting your Camera’s serial number. To test this out I searched for a Canon Serial numbers and found this 0330113672 posted online. I entered it in and the download started without a hitch. I also tried it with the number on my Canon t2i (above) and it also worked just fine. If you don’t have your camera next to you try the above number, if that doesn’t work grab your camera, flip it over and type in the number listed in the white box next the tripod mount.
I’m surprised it’s taken Canon this long to realize this was a problem and address it but I guess it’s better late then never. If you’ve lost your Canon EOS utility disc, there’s finally an easy way to get a hold of the software. Hopefully this helps a few of you out, I know I’ve had to burn copies of my EOS utility disc for others in the past. Now I can finally point them to where the answer should have been all along, Canon’s website.

With an easy modification of registry (win) or deleting 2 files of the installation package (mac) it could be done. Anyway, this is a lot better. Thx.

True, but for the less tech savvy, this is a lot cleaner and easier way to go.

I thank you, I have been looking for this solution. I bought an used 5D MKII, came wothout the Cd and the serial number was pretty impossible to be red. Though I could not even think in downloading the updater… With the soft EOS Info, the serial number is 1. I wasnot able to do anything , Thanks again

When I downloaded the “disk”…the photo stitch isn’t in there and can’t do the update without it.

You can update everything else individually if you don’t need photo stitch.

Dana, if you really need it, can get a copy of the software on ebay for $14. You might also try giving Canon a call and see if they’ll send you a replacement. Chances are if you have a camera and a serial number, they will, though i’m not sure how much they’ll charge you for it.

Dana – Photostitch is neat, but Microsoft has a freebee at the Redmond site called Microsoft ICE. It’s at least as good as Stitch and, although it has the look of a lot of the abandonware still located at the Microsux site, it does get updated from time to time, and best of all, it’s free! Look here – http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ice/ or go to Microsux and use the searchword ICE in the search box.

I cannot find “EOS Digital Solution Disk Software” at the site, just the updaters. I am at this page. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/eos_slr_camera_systems/eos_digital_slr_cameras/eos_d60#DriversAndSoftware Am I at the wrong place?
Thanks!!

If you look here under software you should see “EOS Digital Solution Disk Software 28.2A for Windows”. The software is the same for all cameras, but for some reason, some cameras have it listed and others do not.

Thank you! Got it. BTW, Is this the util I would need to download updates for the camera itself? With the camera plugged in, I mean?

Thank you muchly,
A really straightforward way to download DPP etc without the original disc (now at an unknown location in the house). I opted for a 5Diii, found the software as instructed, and entered the serial number supplied. All good, and without any tricksy registry editing stuff.
Thanks again
