12Sep Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC $889.99
I swear this is the last crazy Ebay Deal I’ll post today. The Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC lens has become a staple in my lenses collection over the last year or so and it’s one of the first lenses I pack for just about any project. The VC (vibration control) makes it great for hand held shots and on a full frame body 24-70mm is right at the sweet spot for wide and medium shots. New the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC is normally $1299, but if you don’t mind getting what could be gray market from South Korea, the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 lens can be had for $889.99 with free shipping. That’s $400 in savings, that you could spend on a new 480GB SSD.

I’ve been watching for a deal on this lens for a couple months now. Almost got sucked into the slickdeal today, but this is way better, if it works out. Thanks for the crazy deal posts today. Can’t quite bite the bullet on the 6d though!

I think I paid $1000 for my copy of the 24-70, I almost ordered another one for my second camera at that price, but I already put in on that 480GB SSD. If there were only three lenses in my collection the Tamron 24-70 would be one of them.

Well now I have to ask: what would the other two be?

The Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS (with 2x extender) to cover the distance and the 50mm f1.2 for bokeh, with the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 for everything else. I’d miss ultra wide a bit but, I think I could live without it.

Deejay,
How would you compare this to the Canon 24-105mm L lens? Have you been able to use both?
I’m eyeing the one on your other post and the price is amazing.

Both are great lenses. Stop the 24-70 down to f4 and the sharpness is about the same as the 24-105 to my eye. If i’m shooting in daylight I’d say the 24-105, but if it’s indoors or at night the f2.8 really does make a difference. Kind of depends on what you shoot. Maybe I’ll put together a comparison video of the 2 lenses when I get a chance.

Even though it’s not as fast, I’d love to see this lens compared to the Canon 24-70 F4 IS. Supposedly, the hybrid IS is pretty amazing on that lens and allows for decent handheld. It also has macro capability.
