11Mar Shark Slider S1 on sale
I’ve been taking the Shark Slider S1 out on a number of shoots and it’s been very impressive to use. Very smooth motion, easy to control, and much nicer than the Konova sliders I’ve used in the past. Hopefully I’ll get a full review up on the Shark Slider S1 by the end of the month. Regardless, the going amazon price for the 1350mm version (above) is $705 with free shipping, if you want to save some money this very impressive slider is currently on sale on ebay for $645 with free shipping. $65 in savings is enough to afford some extra accessories. I know the Shark Slider is pricy but it’s also a very nice step up compared to any other slider I’ve used under $1000, I’d say it’s the best value in its class.

I must say, they do a horrible job of explaining the ergonomics on that big shiny wheel at one end.

The flywheel is actually pretty easy to use. I’ll have a demo in the review.

That’s… certainly one way of selling a slider. *cough*

That’s actually a behind the scenes shot from a very sad anti suicide peace I was working on. It looks sexy there but right after that picture was taken the special effects team went to work. Nothing sexy about it by the time they were done.

The price on this has been going on sale for even cheaper for 1 day periods with the seller digitalbethlehem. They also have make offer options and the base price starts at $640. Pretty quick delivery. I just bought one recently.

Big fan of this slider, but i always feel like i am going to break it, the k5 konova i have feels like i could use it as structural support in the event of a cave-in. I still prefer the shark, but like the tank-like build of the konova.
Where would you get additional flywheel weights?

Yea the solid piece of aluminum makes the Konova more stable when center mounted on a single tripod. Haven’t had any problems with the shark but carbon fiber doesn’t beat metal in strength tests. As for the flywheel, no idea. I’ve been looking for a small handle for it and haven’t had any luck yet. If I find a flywheel I’ll let you know.

I agree with Scott800 that the Shark feels a little fragile. Not cheap but you definitely don’t want to treat it too roughly. I’m thinking of buying a small hardcase for it so I can carry it with the weight mounted. I sold my Konova to buy this and am not at all sorry.

I haven’t used the konova since i received my shark, so i guess that says something. i really wish my edelkrone slider (v2 small) had a flywheel attachment. it has been the biggest disappointment of the year for smooth slides so far. kessler and edelkrone should take some notes from the shark, great concept.

The edelkrone is a great concept but the flywheel really seals the deal. Polly System’s Polly Dolly is the only other unit I’ve seen with the flywheel design and I believe they were one of the first to interduce it at last NAB. I was pretty impressed with it, but wasn’t willing to spend $3k to pick one up.

There are several accessories that should be available for the shark slider including extra extension rails, crank knobs, and additional weights. All of these things are shown in the product video. I’m sure it is a matter of time before they will be available for purchase, if enough people buy the slider to make it economically viable…?
On a side note, i just sent my edelkrone in to us distributor and they said that they have changed some of the aspects of the design (including the belt and lock) making it smoother and more useful. They also assured me that they were working on an “inertia module” that i can only assume uses some type of flywheel and mounts like their motion control systems. Keep you posted

Yea I haven’t heard back from them on the accessories, not sure when or if they are coming. Thanks for the heads up on the Edelkrone. I’ll keep an eye out for it when i’m at NAB in a few weeks.
