There are two reasons to buy the 4dslr Zoom h4n cradle. The first is if you have stripped out the threads on your Zoom h4n. The second is if you want quick access to the battery compartment. Sure the Zoom h4n has a 1/4 20 mount on the back, but it’s close enough to the battery compartment that most mounting options will require you to unscrew the h4n before you can remove the batteries.

The manfrotto mounting stud is a pretty price addition to the cost, I could see some people really wanting that option, but to me it seems a little more reasonable to spend the money on a friction arm and clamp. The cradle itself is a good idea, and if you need something like that, it’s the only game in town, but I think it would be a much more popular device, if they could get the price down around $15 to $20, instead of $35 to $60.
