26Jul Lomography Petzval Portrait lens kickstarter
The video pretty much explains itself. A very cool little lens design from the past brought up to modern times. You can find out more on the kickstarter page here. I got in on the early adopter price of $300, I think only the $400 and above options are left. It looks pretty cool, but as with all kickstarters, fund at your own risk.

The swirly bokeh looks like that of my Switar RX lenses made for the reflex Bolex 16mm camera. They work well on a m4/3 camera with Cmount adapter.
The retail price of $499 is way too steep for this boutique lens. $300 is reasonable. Optically it’s very simple, technically it doesn’t need to be accurate, the expansive part is in the brass! I think lensbaby had something with a similar look.

I’ll check them out. Thanks for the heads up!

Or you could just buy the original swirly bokeh lens made by Zenit called Helios:

It also looked like the aperture on the Petzval redux is changed by inserting that black blade with round hole in the middle. Easy to lose, limited choice in Fstops? I had an Art Deco styled Kodak folding camera that had a blade you could push or pull for 3 different lens opening (f stops).
This product wouldn’t get my money.

Nice thread over at Flickr on Swirly Bokeh. There’s a Helios and a Switar (Probably an RX one) in there.
